Is Lot The Brother Of Abram
Genesis 14:13, ESV: 'Then one who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew, who was living by the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and of Aner. These were allies of Abram.'
Genesis 14:13, KJV: 'And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: and these were confederate with Abram.'
Genesis 14:13, NASB: 'Then a survivor came and told Abram the Hebrew. Now he was residing by the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner, and they were allies with Abram.'
Genesis 14:13, NLT: 'But one of Lot's men escaped and reported everything to Abram the Hebrew, who was living near the oak grove belonging to Mamre the Amorite. Mamre and his relatives, Eshcol and Aner, were Abram's allies.'
Genesis 14:13, CSB: 'One of the survivors came and told Abram the Hebrew, who lived near the oaks belonging to Mamre the Amorite, the brother of Eshcol and the brother of Aner. They were bound by a treaty with Abram.'
Now Abram learns from a survivor of that battle of Lot's capture. Abram is referred to here as a Hebrew, the first use of this term in the Bible. This was, apparently, the name for a particular kind of outsider in Canaanite society. Abram is still living near Hebron, near the oaks (or large trees) on land owned by an Amorite named Mamre. Abram and Mamre are called allies, along with two of Mamre's brothers.
From the order was given in the scriptures (Genesis 11 v 27) it seems he was the younger brother of Abram and Nahor, sons of Terah, so according to the chronology of the Bible as written by Bishop Ussher in the 17th century he was born some time after 1996 B.C. In the city of Ur, where he also died at a relatively young age, but not before he had at least three children; Lot and his sister’s Iscah and Milcah.

- Abram asked Lot which direction he would like to go, even though Abram had the right to choose first. But Abram hated quarrels so if Lot chose east he would go west, and if Lot chose west, then Abram would go east. Lot looked toward the east and saw the fertile plains of the Jordan.
- And they took Lot, Abram 's brother's son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.
